Quiet, mostly. An eight-person hot tub on the covered patio, a bonfire pit by the water, and no television in the room.
A single room is $125 to $175 a night. Couples usually take one of the two king suites, the East Wing or the West Wing.
What an evening actually looks like
Most couples end up doing the same three things without planning any of them. Something on the Traeger pellet grill. An hour at the bonfire pit, which is ringed with rustic limestone boulders and sits next to one of the ponds. Then the hot tub, which is the thing guests come back for more than anything else on the property.
It gets properly dark out here. That is not a small thing if you have only ever looked up from a city.
The room itself
Private bath with a heated bidet, so you are never queueing for a bathroom. A 36-inch doorway. The floors are heated, which we run off one load of propane a year, and in the winter that is the detail people write to us about.
Breakfast, if you want it
We have started working with Bell’s Bakehouse in St. Joseph to bring breakfast to the ranch, made to order. It runs about $50 for two. This is not bacon and eggs. It is Mediterranean and it is properly plated, and it holds its own against anything downtown.

Where we are
45 minutes north of Kansas City, 15 minutes from St. Joseph. Close enough to drive out after work on a Friday, far enough that nothing follows you.
