Because there is no front desk, no hallway, and nobody deciding what your evening looks like except you.
A hotel room is a room. This is thirty acres with a room on it, and the difference is what happens in the fourteen hours you are not asleep.
What you actually get
No lobby and no front desk. Your own bath with a heated bidet. A 36-inch doorway. Heated floors, which run off one load of propane a year.
Outside: ponds stocked with bluegill, crappie and bass, a bonfire pit ringed with rustic limestone boulders, an eight-person hot tub on the covered patio, a Traeger pellet grill and smoker, and Scottish Highland cattle in the pasture.
Rooms are $125 to $175 a night, or $375 for all three, which sleeps ten across 940 square feet.
Why we built it this way
We sold the farm in 2006 and worked through seven states before we landed here. There was a personal bankruptcy in the middle of that, and Brad will tell you it was the only way God could get his attention.
We cleared this land ourselves, bit by bit. So when we say we want you to sit back, relax, and soak it in, that is not a marketing line. It is the thing we were trying to get to for twenty years.
What we hope happens
Selah means pause and reflect. We like hearing your story, and learning what is on your heart, if you feel comfortable sharing. Some guests want that and some want to be left completely alone, and both are fine.
We are 45 minutes north of Kansas City and 15 minutes from St. Joseph.
